Hello, my name is Martina. I am bilingual as I am originally from Italy but I lived in London for a few years before moving to New Zealand thirteen years ago. I have been teaching English for many years at all levels, from beginners to advanced. My students would describe me as dedicated, hardworking and friendly; they often say that they appreciate the fact that I understand the challenges they go through to learn this language because I was also a learner once.
Creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in my lessons is very important for me. My main aim in class is to give students plenty of opportunities to practise English and ask questions; I treat each student individually and give them support in the areas where they lack confidence and encourage them to try things even if they make mistakes.
I also find that it is very important to help students become independent learners by teaching them different techniques to study or revise by themselves after the lessons.
I particularly enjoy observing the improvement in students’ speaking and listening and seeing how they put their new language skills to use outside the classroom by having a conversation with their friends, travelling or finding a job in an English-speaking country.
